Travel Day.

I am in Chicago this week shooting for a women's fashion catalog.

It seems like it has been ages since I was on the road again but really only 2 months.

Some recent behind the scenes in the darkroom video of tintypes being processed.

Tintype Workshop.

So it has being about a year since I first started shooting Tintypes.

Every shoot has being in the studio with the darkroom close by because of the process.

Also every  shoot I had done I hired Tintype technician to make pour,process,develop,fix & wash my plates.

I recently took a workshop put on by Rayko which took this process outside as Michael the manager had built a mobile darkroom.

I hired a model & we shot in the Marin headlines.

I initial thought I would not be into at all the chemical side of things and pouring my own plates & developing them but it was part of the workshop. I loved it!

Now that I can shoot tintypes outside I look forward to creating many more masterpieces.

The plate that I show was my first every pour & if I do so myself I did a damn fine job of it.

Miami Behind The Scenes.

Just came back from a great shoot in Miami.

Shooting the fall catalog for a great client Monroe and Main.

Lots of work and lots of fun as well.We shot alot of great images and motion photography as well.

We stayed in the lovely Hotel ST Augustine right in South Beach which has  amazing steam showers that helped unwind the long days.

In the meantime here is a little behind the scenes grid.

First Attempts at Motion Photography.

After my TinType shoot the other day I shot a small Beauty Film Motion Photography whatever you want to call it.

 I used an Amazing Model Brittany Celeste & Hair & Make Up By Bara.

Loved the process and I look forward to shooting some Motion Photography in Miami next week for a client.

The Power of Photography.

I have been meaning to write this post ever since I got back from my trip to Dublin last month anyway no more delay.

I was back in Dublin for a 2o year school reunion which was an absolute blast & good seeing everyone after such a long time.

I have been living in the States now for 15 years & its definitely my home.One of the things I had to do when I was back was go through a serious amount of boxes I had left in my attic 15 years ago thinking I would be back in about a year.

I came across this photo I had taken of my friend Julie Ryan the summer of 1990, I had only been into photography less than a year & used to have a darkroom off my bedroom. Julie was killed in an accident on Friday 12th of October 1990 a few weeks after I had taken this portrait of her.

I remember printing many copies of this image of her for her friends & family who like myself were just gutted that she was gone.I had feeling that I had something special that I could give to people & it was then that I realized the power of photography & how important photographs are.

UGCX Conference.

I spent Monday & Tuesday of last week down in San Jose at a User Generated Content Conference it was put on by these people. Some of the Microstock companies were there like iStockphoto & Fotolia as well as some rights managed stock companies like Jupiter Images who represent me.

I have made a several thousands of $$$ in the past from my images being licensed & still continue to get royalty checks in the mail a few times a year.

It seems with the growth of microstock industry & the current economic climate the RM sales have slowed down.

As most assignment photographers including myself would never think of submitting images to microstock to sell for a $1 or less there are hundreds of thousands photographers around the world making a living form this industry.

Our whole world & industry is changing rapidly on a daily basis & rather than turn our backs on theses things its important to embrace change & see where we fit in and can profit from such things. 

Everything can have its place.

New Work for Marketing Book.

Even though I have been neglecting my blog I have being busy lately.

The images above I shot in December  of model Sarah Ellis who I have worked with before.

Simple idea just to shoot some lingerie style test shots, I kept things really simple using available light or just one Kino Flo light shooting everything wide open.

The images are going into a BLURB book that I am printing that is going to be used for marketing.I hope to get the book finished by the end of February and will sow the finished product on this blog.
